What Is Physical Therapy?

Physical therapy (PT) is a healthcare specialty that focuses on the prevention, evaluation, rehabilitation, and treatment of physical dysfunction and/or injury. It helps with managing pain and improving mobility. Physical therapy can also be used in conjunction with other treatments to accelerate your healing process.

Highly trained physical therapists can help you recover quickly and in the safest way possible. In order to practice as a physical therapist, a doctor of physical therapy degree must be earned along with passing the state license exam. This ensures that you receive the best possible care.

What Does Physical Therapy Help With?

Physical therapy helps patients regain strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, and range of motion. Physical therapists use a variety of techniques to accomplish this.

Physical therapy can assist in the following:

  • Relieving pain

  • Preventing or recovering from a sports injury

  • Preventing disability or surgery

  • Managing chronic illnesses

  • Recovering after you give birth and so much more

Physical therapy can help with a variety of conditions, ranging from acute to chronic. Some common conditions physical therapy can help with include the following:
